Zelda Ocarina of time, Saria does not appear in the Sacred Forest Meadow.?

I got through the Great Deku Tree and was on my way to find Saria in the Sacred Forest Meadow. I got there and beat the Wolfo and the shrub people and everything. But when i went up the stairs to the clearing, Saria did not appear. Do i need to do anything else? Why isnt she there? Much help needed,\
