An adverb is word that describes a verb or complements it's meaning. For example you could say that 'He slowly cooked the joint of meat to make it tender' The adverb is slowly as it describes how he cooked the meat. Many adverbs end with the letters 'ly' such as quickly, easily, hurriedly and so on.
